A Biography by @DazzledChica10 our Chief Blogger.
Olivier was born in Chambery, France on 30th September 1986. He began his playing career with his hometown club Olympique Club De Froges, where he spent 6 years training before signing with Grenoble at the age of 13.
Olivier played for Grenoble when went on loan to Tours where he played alongside current team mate Laurent Koscielny and way named Ligue 2 Player of the Year 2009/10 after being the top scorer in the league.
He then went on to join Montpellier and in his final season with them he scored 25 goals in 43 appearances before joining Arsenal. The potential Giroud brings to Arsenal for goals are mouth-watering.
Olivier has represented the French National team too; he made his debut in 2011 and was part of the Euro 2012 tournament.
Giroud joined Arsenal in June 2012 and was given the number 12 shirt. He made 47 appearances in total and scored 17 goals, an impressive total for a first season. The English Premier League is very different to what he is used to, there is also the transition of settling into a new country and club.
Olivier was Arsenal’s top goal scorer in January, scoring 5 goals in the last 3 games of the month.
Giroud has proven he is worthy of playing for Arsenal and shown his passion for the club throughout the season, a fine example is the away leg against Bayern he not only scored the first goal of the victory but the pain and agony was clear on his face once the game was over and Arsenal were knocked out the Champions League.
Another advantage he brings to the squad is his height at a whopping 6ft 3inch he brings a physical presence to the team along with his willingness to get stuck in.
He has been welcomed with open arms by Arsenal fans whom have created a chant for him: “Na Na Na Na Na Giroud” this can be heard throughout the crowd at all games.
He has been a hit with the female fans that have enjoyed drooling over various photos of Giroud posing in swimming trunks and various other forms of undress. I personally love the photo of him in a tux…..he definitely knows how to rock a black tie event!
